Walk to India

Get Involved!

Help Us To Cover The Distance…

Walk, run, cycle, swim or propel yourself in any direction to add to our total. We have 6,370 miles (10,252 kilometres!) to cover, so any distance, short or long, will be needed to help us to reach our goal.

What Can I Do?

1. Take part yourself.  Walk, cycle, swim, spin or scoot.  Any contribution is welcome. Set yourself a target and find people to sponsor you or make a donation.  DONATE

2. Sign up for an organised run – local or national. Find people to sponsor you.

3. Organise a group walk/cycle/swim. More legs means more distance covered and more sponsors.  If 10 friends cover a walk of 5 miles, that will be 50 miles towards our goal.

4. Sponsor someone who’s taking part or make a donation. You can do this via the CAF Donate Campaign or, if you’re sponsoring one person or group in particular, through their specific Just Giving campaign, which will be shared on the Walk To India Progress page if they have one.    DONATE

5. Guess how long it will take us… Or if we’ll complete it at all! If you can’t participate yourself but still want to be involved, you can guess how long you think it will take us to reach 6,370 miles. Simply donate £5 to the CAF Campaign to register your entry, and then send an email to WalkToIndia@thekanjiproject.org.uk to send us your guess. Whoever is closest upon completion will be recognised on the Walk to India webpage!

6. Tell your friends about our walk and encourage them to take part. Print off our publicity flyers here and display them in your work place, clubs, churches etc.

What Do We Need From You?

If you’d like to take part in any way, please send us an email at WalkToIndia@thekanjiproject.org.uk. All we need to know is your name and a brief description of what you’re planning to do. Simply send an email to the address above with the following details:

  • Your Name / Group Name
  • Proposed Activity
  • Expected Distance and Completion Date
  • Details to share on our website – do you have a JustGiving / GoFundMe page you’d like us to share? Or social media handles with which we can tag you and your efforts?
  • A picture to share (optional) – we’d love to celebrate your commitments and achievements, so if you’d like to share a picture we can add to our progress page then we will make sure to share

You can also get involved by speaking to any of the trustees about your interest, and we can help you get signed up and ready to go! If anything is unclear, simply email WalkToIndia@thekanjiproject.org.uk for more information and support in getting started!

What Has Been Committed So Far?

SAF Students - 1,300+ miles

The Students at St Antony's are going to be putting in some serious work to cover the almost 1,300 miles from Kanji to the border point in Munabao, Rajasthan, on the border with Pakistan, where, if all goes to plan, we'll be meeting them!

Loughborough University Team - 120+ miles

PhD students from Loughborough University will be organising a hike from the university around some of the hotspots of Leicestershire, including Beacon Hill (the highest point in Leicestershire) and Bradgate Park (home of one of the oldest continuous deer populations in the country). More information coming soon!

Peter Dacombe - 150+ miles

It will be cycling – and I hope to cover 150 miles. The theme is Sussex towns and villages and I plan to do rides out to some of the following: Pevensey Bay, Herstmonceux, Firle, Rushlake Green, Laughton and Terrible Down and Hailsham.

George Foden - 450+ miles

I started the new year by signing up to the gym, so this seems like a good opportunity to force myself to stay on track! I’m aiming to cover more than 150 miles a month through April, May and June on the treadmill, rowing machine, and bike.

Veronica Clark - 100+ miles

I'm no longer in my prime, but I'm keen. My contribution to the Long Walk to India will be 100 miles. I aim to walk 10 miles per week for 10 weeks in April, May and June - 10X10 =100. I'm looking forward to stepping out in lovely spring sunshine up on the South Downs, going round and round the block and walking to town and back.
